Our Rooms

We have carefully arranged and equipped individual rooms to suit the needs of children of different ages

Dinners are served in a separate room and all our cots are in a designated sleeping room.

Children have daily access to outdoor play including covered areas so that they can go out whatever the weather.

The nursery is divided into the following age groups:

  • We accommodate our younger children on the ground floor. In the morning they are welcomed in the main room where they have access to a variety of toys and activities.
For children under 1, our routine is very flexible as it centres around each child’s individual sleeping and feeding needs.
For young toddlers, the routine includes short group activities with more structure such as singing, rhyming and story time.

We are in the process of restructuring the 0-2s area and are creating a sensory room where children will have access to resources for exploratory (heuristic) play.

  • Children aged 2 to 3 have access to the first floor of the house. Their days are more structured, while still following every child’s individual needs.

The toddler’s class is divided in two:

The activity area is where they enjoy art and craft, games and puzzles and a range of other adult-led and child-initiated activities.

The small world area is for pretend play where the children take the lead, it is also where they have story, song and circle times led by the adults

  • Our preschool is housed in a building in our garden. Here children follow a routine that contains a balance between adult-led and children-led play.
Children have access to a host of resources and learning challenges set by the staff in their monthly planning following different themes such as the natural world or festivals.

Circle times begin to prepare them for school by including phonics, letters and sounds, as well as specific activities related to the 7 areas of learning, with a particular emphasis on the three prime areas: 1) PSED - Personal Social and Emotional Development - 2) Physical Development and 3) Communication and Literacy.

Physical activities are provided every day, this includes dancing, access to the outdoors free-flow area, the indoor ball pool or the back garden.

Outdoor Play

Free-flow areas

These are covered areas adjoining the main building where we provide tables, chalkboards and games for children to enjoy a range of activities in the fresh air all year round.

Covered garden

This is reserved for our youngest children, up to 2 years old. There are chalkboards, a cosy corner, a play kitchen and benches as well as spaces to grow herbs and flowers.

Main garden

Weather-permitting, we take the 2-5 year-olds out in the garden as often as possible. They have an exciting adventure trail, a cottage garden with flowers, fruit trees and vegetables, a willow den and an outdoor classroom. In the sensory garden they can follow the stepping stones and explore the different sights, smells, sounds and touch of the plants met along the way.
